A stand has two jobs: carry a lot of weight evenly and keep the tank perfectly level. Buy one made for your tank's footprint, never one smaller than the tank, and check it can carry about 1.2 kg per litre of the tank's volume. A cabinet with space for a canister, CO2 cylinder and cables keeps the setup tidy, and doors that open wide make filter maintenance much easier. Rimless tanks especially need a flat, rigid top.

Can I put an aquarium on regular furniture?
Only small nanos. Furniture is not built for a concentrated load of 70 kg or more and can sag, which cracks tanks. Use a proper aquarium stand for anything above about 30 litres.
How do I level an aquarium stand?
Put a spirit level on the top in both directions and shim the feet until it reads true, then check again once the empty tank is on it.
What goes inside an aquarium cabinet?
Usually the canister filter, the CO2 cylinder and regulator, and the power board. Keep the board high and add drip loops to every cable.
Does a rimless tank need a mat?
Most makers recommend one. The mat takes up tiny unevenness in the stand so the glass is supported evenly.
